PUBG: Battlegrounds says goodbye to its users on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One

It’s been almost 12 years since Sony’s PlayStation 4 and Microsoft’s Xbox One were launched on the market. Today, they are no longer the most recent consoles, as they were replaced by the PS5 and the Xbox Series X/S, respectively. Still, there are many players who retain them and use them to play current titles like PUBG: Battlegrounds.

This first-person shooting delivery, in the Fortnite style, was released on December 21, 2017, for PC, Android, iOS, and the aforementioned platforms. For five years, it was a total success, harvesting 75 million copies sold, a number that made it the fifth most successful video game in history.

From that moment on, the game was re-released for the current PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S as a free title. However, that hasn’t stopped him from remaining one of the most simultaneous gamers on Steam, Epic Games, and also among users of Sony and Microsoft’s gaming systems.

However, PUBG: Battlegrounds says goodbye to the consoles that welcomed you to the market. This was announced by the South Korean studio Krafton, responsible for the video game and one of the most important Gaming companies in Asia, along with their Chinese colleagues from Tencent Games, and of course, the legendary Japanese studios.

When is PUBG: Battlegrounds from the PS4 and Xbox One?

According to an official statement on the title’s website, PUBG: Battlegrounds will no longer be available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on November 13, 2025. Following the developer study, this decision is made in order to improve the versions for ninth-generation platforms, i.e., PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Krafton intends to create a game experience with improved graphics that enhances the qualities of the game as a very realistic Battle Royale. However, this implies stopping giving technical support to the old gaming systems and closing their servers.

However, the progress and objects purchased by the players within this version of the game will be moved to their new version of PlayStation 5, in the case of users who come from PS4, and to the Xbox Series X-S version for those who come from Xbox One.

What are the differences between PlayStation and Xbox?

Green X gamers will have the advantage of not having to download the video game again, as the Smart Delivery feature will automatically update the version of Xbox One to the Xbox Series X-S version. On the PlayStation side, it’s a little more complicated.

Those who own a copy of PUBG: Battlegrounds on their PS4 will have to download the title again to enjoy it on PS5. Although you don’t have to lose sight of the fact that this implies, for both types of players, buying a new console.

In addition, the version for the Xbox Series S, considerably less powerful than its two older generation sisters, will have two game modes available: performance and resolution. In the first one, you can play 60 stable FPS by sacrificing some resolution, and in the second, play 30 FPS, but in a resolution close to 4K.
