Gears of War: Reloaded registered three million PS5 players in three days

Is the console war over? It may be too early to say, but August 26, 2025, may be a date that will eventually be marked as the beginning of the end of the console war between Xbox and PlayStation. Two Gaming companies that have been rivals for more than two decades.

Why just that day? August 26 was the release of the most recent title of Gears of War, a classic Xbox saga, on PlayStation 5. And also the premiere of Helldivers 2, an exclusive PlayStation video game, which is now available on Xbox Series X/S. Not to mention the unusual collaboration between the two for a DLC.

So, does this mark the end of the staunch rivalry between Microsoft and Sony? Not officially, but if it’s true that it marks a before and after in their relationship. A bond that has been permeated by the fervent devotion of their communities and the commercial success or failure of their platforms, their exclusive games and franchises.

Gears of War’s curious message on social media

The Coalition, developer of Gears of War: Reloaded, announced in a new statement that the delivery had already reached one million PS5 players in just three days. This speaks to the huge popularity of Xbox Game Studios publications on Sony Interactive Entertainment’s gaming systems.

Ending the war of consoles, one piece at a time. Thank you to a million players, that’s what Gears of War posted on your X account. A clear allegory to the battle that Microsoft and Sony have fought since the eras of the first Xbox and the PS2.

Maybe that was the true intention of the green X from the beginning of the generation, and PlayStation simply gave up on its strategy? It’s a question you won’t get answered, at least not in a long time, let alone on this note.

There’s still competition between Xbox and PlayStation.

However, there are still many aspects in which these two companies compete, and many more when it comes to playing video games available on both consoles. For example, while a PlayStation user must pay $40 ($160,000) for Gears of War: Reloaded, the Xbox gamer can enjoy it by paying $42,900 each month in exchange for the same game and 400 more included with the Xbox Game Pass service.

Immarsiii that, so far, it is only available on Microsoft platforms -Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S- and PC. The latter, representing a segment of the market with enormous growth around the world and to which PlayStation, reluctantly, had to pay more attention by publishing some of its best computer titles.

A fact that continues to speak loudly of a war of consoles increasingly discredited by the cross-platform strategies. That while they benefit players, they take away the most important identity from gaming systems and their enormous traditions built over more than 20 years of existence.
