Black Myth: Wukong will have a sequel and other surprises from Gamescom 2025

A quarter of a century ago, every August, the eyes of the Gaming world turned to see the only epicenter that existed in those days, Los Angeles. The American city was the headquarters of the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), the most important video game fair, and by a wide margin, in the world. Even Japan did not have an event of such relevance.

Far less Europe looking from a distance at how California’s most populous city hoarded the industry’s best and biggest ads. However, everything changed for the third decade of the twenty-first century, as the Covid-19 pandemic precipitated the disappearance of E3, giving way to other conventions spread throughout the world.

One of these was Gamescom, a small event, compared to E3, which congregated and interested only the European public, as it had been held since 2009 in Cologne, Germany. However, there was a substantial difference between the global fair and that of the old continent, and the second always opened the door to the enthusiastic public of Gaming.

Something very different at the Electronic Entertainment Expo, as it only opened the doors to fans during its last face-to-face edition, 2019. Even during its early years, the Gamescom had to deal with another major event in its own country, the Leipzig Game Convention. However, Cologne’s Geopolitical position tips the scales in its favour.

Today it is the most prestigious fair in Europe and its days of activities are marked on the calendar of any fanatic and journalist of Gaming. Ever since its first edition, it has shown to be a great commercial showcase for developers and manufacturers. It was the first time Sony had introduced a console, the PlayStation 3 Slim, outside Japan or the United States.

In 2021, Insomniac Games showed what the new PlayStation 5 and its revolutionary SSD storage unit were capable of moving in just seconds from one dimension to another in Ratchet & Clank: Separate Dimension. Now it’s the turn for all the novelties, announcements, and presentations of Gamescom’s 2025 Opening Night Live.

First News of Gamescom 2025

The first interesting game to appear during this inaugural gala was Outlaws Remaster, a modern version of a 1997 shooter made by LucasArts. Even without a date to confirm, it will land on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 1.

Now, yes, going with the most anticipated ads, Hollow Knight Silksong delighted the attendees with a gameplay trailer. However, no further details were given, so its premiere date and its launch platforms are still unknown to video game lovers.

Continuing with crowd-pleasing games, Activision Blizzard revealed that its new Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will have a cooperative campaign of up to four players. In addition, it will have a multiplayer mode of up to 16 6v6 maps and a large stage for up to 40 gamers simultaneously. It will have an open beta from October 2 to 8, 2025.

Suspicions about LEGO Batman were true.

Warner Bros. Games confirmed a new video game for the LEGO Batman franchise, this time in the open-world genre. It will have the unmistakable mood of this type of title and will tell the origin of Bruce Wayne and hundreds of stories more around the Knight of the Night.

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV, with more than 70 playable missions, will arrive exclusively for Steam in 2026. On the other hand, Final Fantasy XIV Online will be launched by Capcom in October and with a special collaboration with Monster Hunter Wilds.

Another buzzing news of the night was the premiere of Indiana Jones and the Grand Circle for Nintendo Switch 2. The fans of the world’s most famous explorer will have to wait until 2026. Although the first DLC of the game will be ready on September 4 of this year.

Ninja Gaiden 4, Silent Hill f and more

Following the news of Gamescom 2025, Ninja Gaiden 4 presented a new trailer before its premiere on October 21. For its part, Silent Hill presented a terrifying trailer that shows its Japanese setting, which will be on sale on September 25.

One of the surprises that caught the most attention during the gala was The Divine Commedia, an RPG (role-playing game) based on the well-known work of Dante Alighieri. Chronos: The New Dawn showed a trailer and reaffirmed its release date, September 5, 2025.

Obsidian’s Outer World 2 confirmed its release date, which will be October 29. In addition, the release date of the DLC (downloadable content) of Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, which will be on September 9, was also known.

PS5 launches

Ages of Empires IV: Anniversary Edition will land on PlayStation 5, for the first time in its history, on November 4. World of Warcraft, the pioneer of MMO games, presented, through a cinematic trailer, its next expansion, Midnight, which will be ready in 2026.

Ghost of Yotei, the big launch for Sony’s console during the second half of the year, showed off its multiplayer mode. It should be remembered that the game set in feudal Japan will reach the current generation platform on October 2, 2025.

Finally, a short trailer of Resident Evil Requiem was screened and will be released on February 27, 2026. And as a final surprise, perhaps the most important of Opening Night Live, Black Myth: Wukong will have a sequel called Black Myth: Zhong Kui.
