Mario Kart World: The New Mario Kart Game for Switch 2

Nintendo just dropped big news about Mario Kart World, a brand-new game coming to the Nintendo Switch 2. It launches on June 5, 2025, the same day as the new console. Fans are excited, but the price is making some people talk. Here is what you need to know about this game.

What Is Mario Kart World?

Mario Kart World is the first new Mario Kart game in over ten years. It is not like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which was an update of an older game. This one has huge, connected tracks where you can race or explore. You can drive off the path and go almost anywhere in a mode called Free Roam. There is also a Knockout Tour mode where you race through lots of courses, and if you do not finish high enough at checkpoints, you are out. Up to 24 players can race at once, double the usual 12. It is exclusive to the Switch 2, so you cannot play it on the old Switch.

How Much Does It Cost?

The price is a shocker. Mario Kart World costs 79 dollars and 99 cents if you buy it by itself digitally. That is more than the usual 59 dollars and 99 cents Nintendo charged for big games on the old Switch. Some stores in Europe list the physical version at 90 euros, which could mean 90 dollars in the US. For comparison, a PlayStation 5 costs 499 dollars and 99 cents, and its big games are usually 69 dollars and 99 cents. You can save money with the Switch 2 bundle, though. It includes the console and a digital copy of Mario Kart World for 499 dollars and 99 cents, which is like getting the game for 50 bucks. Nintendo says more details are coming in a special Mario Kart World Direct on April 17.

Characters and New Stuff

Nintendo showed off some gameplay today. You will see classic characters like Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Bowser. They can do new tricks like grinding on rails, jumping off walls, and even riding inside trucks on the track. The trailer showed Mario eating a giant burger and changing outfits, so there might be costumes for everyone. Other characters like Yoshi and Toad are sure to be there too, but we do not have a full list yet. The game has big, open areas with different weather and times of day, making it feel fresh. It is built to use the Switch 2’s power, like its 1080p screen and 4K TV mode.

Mario Kart World looks like a huge step up for the series. The price might bug some fans, but the new features could make it worth it. If you want to grab it, pre-orders for the Switch 2 and the bundle start April 9. Check Nintendo.com for more as June 5 gets closer
