Street Fighter, like other video games, will also have a movie

Street Fighter, made by Takashi Nishiyama and Hiroshi Matsumoto, debuted in arcades in 1987. On that occasion, the player could perform three types of strokes and three different types of kicks. Each one at a different speed and force. At the time, Capcom, an old fox in the arcade business, was one of the most important development studios in Japan and the United States.
Ten years later, Street Fighter III: New Generation was released, which was also released for arcades and not on consoles such as the PlayStation 1, Nintendo 64, and Sega Saturn. It added a new character, and Alex was presented as the protagonist of this new main installment. In addition, the selection system gave new abilities to the combats, especially in defensive mechanics.
Finally, Street Fighter 6, the most recent title in this iconic franchise, was released on June 2, 2023, this time for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. It uses Capcom’s proprietary RE Engine graphics engine and includes multiple new features such as commentators, a single-player adventure mode, and customizable avatars.
Now, the saga is back in the news because of its film, a trend that is increasingly common in this industry, as there are fewer and fewer video games based on movies, but there are films inspired by some of the best gaming stories. A deep and revealing entertainment product.
Street Fighter and one more attempt at the seventh art
This IP -intellectual property- has already had some film adaptations in the past, but none without the media, commercial, and financial impact that this series of games deserves, since we are talking about founding installments of the fighting genre, especially in its game room mode.
However, it seems that this new “dip” that Street Fighter takes in the waters of cinema is aimed at being one of the best in the genre. The ambitious project will be in the hands of Paramount and Legendary and is expected to be ready on October 16, 2026.
This new attempt is so serious that it is noticeable that a good part of the budget was invested in forming the cast. From WWE wrestlers, multidisciplinary artists, and martial arts actors to emerging artists, the roster of wrestlers in this new film fills fans with great enthusiasm.

Unusual directors
Since April 2023, it was known that the rights to the film had been acquired by Legendary Entertainment. However, it was not until a year later that the project began to show signs of life with the announcement of its directors.
These were the Philippou brothers, YouTubers turned filmmakers with two feature films released to their credit: “Talk to me” and “Give it back to me”. But months later, the Australians gave up on the project and left his position to Kitao Sakurai, an experienced Japanese director specializing in comedy.
The script will be written by Dalan Musson, who already worked on “Falcon and the Winter Soldier” and “Captain America: Brave New World”. Finally, the cinematography will be in charge of Ken Seng, who also presents in the productions of “Deadpool”, “Project X”, and “Terminator: Dark Fate”.
