This is the new PlayStation portable console, it will be launched alongside the PS6
The PlayStation Portal is a portable accessory to Sony’s current PlayStation 5. It was presented on 23 May 2023 under the name of project Q and launched on November 15 of that year. Although many confused him with a portable PlayStation Portable (PSP) or PlayStation (PS) Vita-style portable console, it’s just an image repeater.
This means that for it to work and reproduce video games, it must be kept linked to a PS5 that is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the PlayStation Portal. Regarding its design, it resembles a DualSense – the controller of the PlayStation 5 – but with the difference of integrating an eight-inch screen right in the middle of the two handles.
In technical terms, it is a remote or remote control of the PS5 that is not able to run any video games natively, therefore, it cannot be considered a traditional portable platform like the Nintendo Switch (1 and 2), the Asus ROG Ally X, the Lenovo Legion Go, the Acer Nitro Blaze 7, the Steam Deck and of course the new ROG Xbox Ally.
It is precisely in that saturated business of portable systems that Sony wants to enter with the third console in this format of its history. A portable PlayStation very similar to a Nintendo Switch
According to some insiders from the Rising Sun company, Sony is already working on developing a portable PS very similar to the Nintendo Switch. From an accessory that allows you to connect to the TV, to a graphic power higher than that of a standard PS5.
The processor would come on AMD, heavily linked to the next generation of Xbox, from a four-core Zen 6c and an RDNA 5-to-1.2 GHz GPU, and up to 1.65 GHz in connected mode to the TV. Very similar to what Nintendo has done since 2017 with its Switch 1.
Rumours suggest that PlayStation’s new portable system would be on sale in late 2027 or early 2028 for $500. If true, it would be Sony’s first portable console in almost 20 years since PS Vita, one of the most painful financial failures in the history of the Japanese multinational.
When is PlayStation 6 coming out?
Moving on to the PS6, it would also premiere on the same date as Sony’s possible new portable console, and would also be made from an AMD chip. The same company that made the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro possible is criticized for its high entry prices and constant rises.
If you take into account the cost of a video game and monthly subscriptions, the total price of the PS5 amounts to about 100,000 yen ($2,700,000). Tsujimoto also expressed concern about the Monster Hunter Wilds sales, released on February 28, 2025. Developers budgeted to market 10 million copies in a month and were only able to ship 500,000 in the first four months.
