Organizations in Latin America face 2,716 cyberattacks every week

In the first half of 2025, Latin America recorded an average of 2,716 cyberattacks per week per organization. According to a Threat Intelligence report from Check Point Research, this figure exceeds the world average by 39% and ranks Colombia among the five most attacked countries in the region.

From ransomware, a type of malware (malicious software) that blocks or encrypts the files of a computer system, preventing the user from accessing their information, to theft of credentials, Colombian companies have faced cyberattacks that paralyze operations, compromise their information, and generate million-dollar losses.

According to Jorge Alejandro Méndez, head of platforms at Gtd Colombia in conjunction with Securesoft, the Center of Excellence in Cybersecurity, solutions such as the Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) and Endpoint Backup (EBU) have become increasingly essential for companies seeking to anticipate, contain, and reverse the effects of digital attacks.

Possible solutions to cyberattacks

Méndez explains that EDR is an advanced cybersecurity solution that protects computers, servers, and mobile devices. This allows companies to constantly monitor their devices, detect their anomalous behavior, and respond to attacks in real time.

For its part, EBU is a cloud data backup and recovery solution that protects critical information stored on computers, mobile devices, and servers. All this to combat cybercriminals and system failures.

Can’t organizations wait to be attacked before acting? These services were designed to scale according to the needs of each company. In addition, it has integration to platforms such as Microsoft 365 and is compatible with the main operating systems, according to the head of platforms of Gtd Colombia.

How much does a cyber ransom cost?

Although Colombia shows greater resistance to digital blackmail, i.e., paying for a ransom, the economic impact remains worrying. The average cost of recovery in Colombia is US$870,000, almost 3.5 billion Colombian pesos.

Following the study, vulnerabilities are the exploitation of technical failures (30%), theft of credentials (28%), and malicious mail (24%). However, digital damage to a company is not only measured in money, as 42 per cent of business leaders victims of a cyber attack were removed from their posts.

This scenario is compounded by the use of artificial intelligence by criminals. Generative AI is being used to create deepfakes, disinformation campaigns, and advanced malware, which increases the reach of cybercriminals.

The importance of cybersecurity

Integrating solutions and good practices in a day-to-day IT team offers advantages to allow rapid recovery from incidents. In addition, it facilitates compliance with security, audit, and data control policies.

Our focus on detection, response, and recovery makes our tools essential to ensure business continuity in an environment increasingly exposed to digital risk, concluded Jorge Alejandro Méndez, head of platforms at Gtd Colombia, in conjunction with Securesoft.

In conclusion, cybersecurity is reaffirmed as a strategic priority in any corporate environment. Threats grow with speed and sophistication could put any digital system in check, whether a public or private organization, small or large.
