Samsung phone with One UI 8.0: Smartphone with Android 16 indicates improvements

While most Samsung phones are still waiting for their Android 15 update and thus One UI 7.0, the next major operating system update – Android 16 – is already approaching. Now the latest software has been spotted on a smartphone for the first time, accompanied by a surprising result.

As reported by the Leaker Tarun Vats in a post on X (formerly Twitter), benchmarks have surfaced the unpublished Samsung operating system One UI 8.0 based on Android 16 (Google). The benchmark platform is Geekbench, specifically the version Geekbench 6. The mentioned results can also be found there – the image with the performance values of the Samsung Galaxy S25 (indicated by the product name SM-S931B) under Android 16 is most likely not a fake.

Samsung Galaxy S25: More powerful on Android 16?

Apart from the fact that these benchmarks could indicate that Samsung is making progress in developing its Android 16 version, the result also shows that the supposed Galaxy S25 is achieving better performance with the new Samsung software than on Android 15. In our test, the S25 achieved a single-core score of 2,762 and a multi-core score of 9,037, determined from the average of three runs with Geekbench 6. In the leaked benchmark, the device even comes with a single-core score of 3,135 and a multi-core score of 9,938.

That is, Android 16 could bring optimizations in terms of performance and make smartphones from Samsung, Google and Xiaomi more performing with the same hardware than Android 15. At this point, however, it must be added that Samsung has not officially confirmed these benchmarks so far and that the validity of test builds of a smartphone operating system has only a limited meaningful value.

Android 16 arrives at Samsung in 2025

Last year, Google had already announced that Android 16 should appear much earlier than the current version Android 15 – namely in 2. quarter 2025. And even though Google’s own pixel phones will first receive the update, other Android manufacturers, such as Samsung, are likely to prepare themselves with their customizations for the previous release to avoid major delays.

The first Samsung phones to receive the One UI 8.0 update are likely to be the new Galaxy S25 series smartphones. The Galaxy S24 series should follow shortly thereafter. It’s unclear how much time will pass between the two major operating system updates for some Samsung models – it was recently announced that some Samsung phones and tablets will receive their One UI 7.0 update significantly later.
