AI’s unstoppable business: Anthropic tripled its valuation in six months

U.S. artificial intelligence (AI) startup Anthropic, whose model Claude is one of OpenAI’s main rivals for ChatGPT, announced on Tuesday that it reached $183 billion after a new round of funding.

The San Francisco company released on Monday the conclusion of a funding round in which it raised $13 billion, led by ICONIQ, Fidelity Management & Research Co., and Lightspeed Venture Partners, according to a blog post.

This financing values Anthropic at $183 billion, the publication states, which is three times the valuation revealed in early March.

According to Anthropic, these funds will serve to develop their capacities, deepen their security research, and support their international expansion.

The company, known for its chatbot Claude, competes with Google (Gemini), OpenAI (ChatGPT), xAI (Grok), Meta, and Microsoft in a frantic race to generate AI that costs hundreds of billions of dollars.

According to several media outlets, the OpenAI leader is in talks to allow his employees to sell their shares, which would value the company at approximately $50 billion.

As for xAI, its owner Elon Musk is looking to organize a new round of funding that would take her to a range of $170 billion to $200 billion, according to the Financial Times.
