Samsung Galaxy S27 Pro Leak Reveals Larger Battery and Next-Gen Memory
Samsung is preparing to increase battery capacity and memory speeds across its upcoming flagship smartphone lineup, according to recent regulatory filings and supply chain leaks.
The upcoming Samsung Galaxy S27 Pro and Galaxy S27 Ultra recently cleared China’s 3C regulatory certification, confirming a distinct shift in the company’s hardware strategy. After years of holding its premium models to a 5,000 mAh ceiling, Samsung is equipping its 2027 flagship devices with higher-density power cells.
The 3C certification database reveals the Galaxy S27 Ultra carries a rated battery capacity of 5,534 mAh, which Samsung will likely advertise as a typical capacity of 5,700 mAh. The newly designated Galaxy S27 Pro features a rated capacity of 5,087 mAh, translating to an advertised 5,200 mAh.
This confirms the smaller S27 Pro will house a larger battery than the current Galaxy S26 Ultra. The regulatory documents also show both models will support 60-watt wired charging, maintaining the maximum charging rate introduced in the S26 Ultra.
The Shift to Silicon-Carbon Chemistry
The capacity increases are reportedly tied to Samsung’s adoption of silicon-carbon battery technology. This marks a notable technical transition for Samsung’s mobile division, which has historically relied on standard lithium-ion cells with graphite anodes.
Silicon can theoretically hold significantly more lithium ions than graphite, which translates directly to higher energy density. However, silicon expands substantially during charging, a physical change that historically caused the batteries to degrade quickly over multiple charge cycles. By blending silicon with carbon, battery manufacturers can stabilize the material.
This chemistry allows companies to pack more milliamp-hours into the same physical volume. For the Galaxy S27 Pro, this means fitting a 5,200 mAh battery into a chassis that remains thin, avoiding the added bulk that would be required if the company used older graphite-based cells.
Positioning the Galaxy S27 Pro
The leaks provide a clearer view of Samsung’s product strategy for early 2027. The Galaxy S27 Pro appears designed to offer high-end specifications in a more compact form factor, bridging the gap between the standard models and the massive Ultra.
CAD-based dimensions published by known hardware leaker Steve Hemmerstoffer (@OnLeaks) indicate the S27 Pro will measure 154.06 by 73.77 by 7.95 millimeters. This makes the device noticeably smaller than the Ultra model, aligning it closer in size to the base Galaxy S27 or Google’s Pixel 11 Pro.
The Pro model will reportedly adopt the flat, horizontal camera bar design expected on the Ultra, moving away from the floating lens aesthetic used in recent generations. However, the S27 Pro will not include an integrated S Pen stylus. By removing the stylus silo, Samsung reclaims internal space that can be reallocated to the larger battery and improved thermal management systems.
This strategy mirrors Apple’s approach with the iPhone Pro and Pro Max, as well as Google’s segmented Pixel Pro lineup. By offering processor and camera parity across two different physical sizes, Samsung can cater to premium buyers who find the Ultra’s footprint cumbersome.
Memory and Storage Overhaul
Beyond battery improvements, supply chain reports indicate the S27 Pro and Ultra will introduce a new standard for mobile memory. The devices are expected to use LPDDR6 RAM and UFS 5.1 storage technology.
The transition from the current LPDDR5X and UFS 4.0 standards represents a substantial increase in memory bandwidth. LPDDR6 (Low-Power Double Data Rate 6) offers higher data transfer rates while consuming less power. Samsung has previously indicated that its LPDDR6 configurations can reach speeds up to 10.7 gigabits per second, yielding a total memory bandwidth of 114 gigabytes per second.
UFS 5.1 (Universal Flash Storage) similarly increases the speed at which the phone can read and write data to its internal storage. The base configuration for the Galaxy S27 series will reportedly jump to 12GB of RAM, while the Ultra model will offer a 16GB tier alongside up to 1TB of storage.
In practical terms, these memory upgrades are structural requirements for modern software. Processing artificial intelligence tasks locally—rather than sending user requests to cloud servers—requires the processor to move vast amounts of data in and out of memory instantly. The combination of LPDDR6 and UFS 5.1 provides the necessary data pipeline to prevent bottlenecking the system during intensive workloads.
Processing Power and Camera Refinements
Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro and Extreme processors will power the premium S27 models in most markets. The new 2-nanometer architecture features a CPU capable of reaching 5GHz and includes a dedicated neural processing unit designed specifically for on-device AI tasks.
While the battery and memory systems are seeing significant upgrades, the camera hardware on the S27 Pro appears focused on refinement. Early leaks indicate the S27 Pro will feature a 200-megapixel primary sensor, flanked by a 50-megapixel ultrawide lens and a 12-megapixel telephoto lens.
Conversely, the S27 Ultra is reportedly restructuring its camera array, potentially dropping the dedicated 3x optical lens in favor of high-resolution sensor cropping from its primary and periscope cameras.
Market Context and Pricing
Samsung’s hardware revisions arrive as the company faces increasing pressure from Chinese smartphone manufacturers. Brands like Xiaomi, Oppo, and Honor have consistently pushed battery capacities past 5,500 mAh while accelerating charging speeds. By moving to silicon-carbon batteries and increasing base specifications, Samsung is actively closing the hardware gap to maintain its position in the premium Android market.
These upgrades are expected to impact consumer pricing. The integration of 2-nanometer processors, high-density batteries, and next-generation memory significantly increases component costs. Initial retail leaks suggest price increases across the entire S27 lineup, with base models potentially seeing a noticeable price bump compared to the S26 series.
Samsung is expected to officially announce the Galaxy S27 lineup in early 2027, following its traditional first-quarter release schedule.
